Perini Country House is named after the Perini Family. Vincenzo, the first Australian Perini, arrived in the Spa Country with other young Swiss Italian men during the gold rushes of the 1850's. They settled in the Hepburn Springs area because of its rocky landscape reminded them of the homes they had left behind in the canton of Ticino in Switzerland.
Set high above the western edge of Doctor's Gully, with cascading views throughout and along the Hepburn Regional State forest. Doctor's Gully, a bustling gold field in the 1850's now reclaimed by nature's spectacular native vegetation and fauna. It is a few minutes walk to the start of many bush trails, the Hepburn Springs Reserve and the famous Spa Centre.
Vincenzo's son Bill was born in 1888. He fought in World War I and returned to become Postmaster of Hepburn Springs. Bill spent over thirty years developing the extensive gardens with the help of his three daughters who remember carting buckets of water after school to nurture the tiny seedlings.
Bill collected exotic trees, shrubs and flowers such as gingko, tricolor beech, crimson hawthorn, fruiting dogwood, and hundreds of bulbs. Seventy years later the result is cool, green and mysterious in the heat of Summer, a blaze of color in Autumn, calm in Winter, and carpeted with flowering bulbs in Spring.
